The Bank Of Industry (BOI) on Monday
January 8, 2018 supported the National Film and Video Censors
Boards fight against uncensored and un classified films and video works by Presenting the Board with
two Kymstone motorcycles and a cash donation of N500,000 (Five hundred thousand naira only).
The Executive Director of NFVCB, Alhaji Adedayo Thomas appreciated the BOI’s contribution towards
the fight against unlicensed and unclassified video works noting it will ease the work of the taskforce..
He also commended Mr. Tonye Princewill, a Film stakeholder who had donated funds to fix one of the
Boards vehicles for enforcement and urged other stakeholders to follow suit and do their part in
supporting the Board. The Executive Director said the motorcycles will aid in maneuvering the Lagos
traffic while on operation.
While speaking with some journalist at the event on the activities of the Board in year 2017, the ED
stated that the NFVCB has confiscated a lot of unlicensed and unclassified video works worth about
N150bn in Lagos. Raids were also done in Kaduna and Benin, he stated. Also in December 2017, raids
were done in Abuja and arrests were made along with seizures of unlicensed and unclassified video
works. He stated that we have the backing of the government and stakeholders. These raids have been
done in virtually every state and several culprits have been arrested and taken to court.
The Ed also noted that the Board, while on fieldwork, discovered a lack of education among film
consumers. This has caused the Board to make students of secondary schools and universities
ambassadors of the NFVCB. He mentioned that 95% of the cinemas in the country are licensed and show
only approved films.
Finally, the ED said the Boards new year resolution is to reduce the work of pirates to the barest
minimum, encourage the work of local producers and stop the illegal importation of foreign video
works. The Board is also working with stakeholders to increase the capacity of productions in the
country.
