Report on NFVCB Executive Director’s visit to Veteran Actor, Sadiq Daba

As part of his efforts to reach out to stakeholders in the film industry, the Executive
Director of the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB), Alhaji Adedayo Thomas
paid a courtesy visit to Veteran actor, Mr. Sadiq Daba at his Lagos residence.
During the visit, the Executive Director expressed happiness in meeting with the veteran
actor noting that since he assumed office he has been going round visiting veterans and
stakeholders in the industry rather than waiting for them to come to him. According to
the Executive Director, he believes the Board must be able to do things for the people
who created the industry.
Mr. Sadiq Daba who could not hide his joy, recalled that he was surprised when the
Executive Director called him prior to the visit and when he tried to find out from some
friends and stakeholders if they knew him, his accolade spoke for him as everyone had
good things to say about Adedayo Thomas.
Daba was elated that government was getting it right now for appointing young and
vibrant people to man key positions in the affairs of the entertainment industry in
Nigeria, and protect the interest of all. According to him, “we need people who have a
vision that can carry out this mission we have set for ourselves in the industry”. He
added that “the entertainment industry projects all of us and will continue to, therefore
must be taken seriously”. Also, he said if the entertainment industry in Nigeria succeeds,
everyone under it will succeed.
Daba warned him however that he would be insulted in the course of his assignment,
but he must remain dogged, as the film industry needs someone like Thomas who is
fearless to move it to another level.
The Executive Director surprised Mr. Daba when he promised to send him a cash
donation of N300,000 (Three Hundred Thousand Naira) on behalf of the National Film
and Video Censors Board to help offset his medical bills and promised to do more.
Mr. Daba expressed appreciation to the Executive Director, adding that it is visits like
this that keeps him going. He therefore called on everyone to support him.
