Man who lost penis to flesh-eating bug tells wife she can 'look for sex elsewhere'

A man who can never have sex again after a 'horror operation' saw him lose most of his penis to a flesh-eating bug has spoken of his heartbreaking ordeal.

Cancer patient Andrew Lane, 61, contracted the potentially fatal infection necrotising fasciitis following surgery to remove his prostate gland at Southend Hospital in Essex. He was left fighting for his life and, although he survived, his genitals were so badly damaged that he lost most of his penis and is no longer able to have sex with wife of 14 years Sue.

So much diseased tissue had to be removed that it also left him with a protruding stomach, where the outer tissue had been "eaten" away.

He told The Sun:

"As a man you never know how much you will miss your penis until it's gone.
"I went into hospital a cancer patient for what doctors said would be a routine operation and came out without my manhood."

He said that all he and Sue, 59, can now do in the bedroom is "remember the good times"

"I do miss having sex with my wife,"I've told her she can look for it elsewhere."

Andrew was forced to use a catheter and colostomy bag for two years and has had to have a special device fitted to help him urinate.
