This year however, the team behind the celebrated calendar took the 2016's issue in a whole new direction by featuring some of the world's most inspiring women including artists, athletes and bloggers. The 43rd edition, which was created by Annie Leibovitz, features the likes of Serena Williams, Amy Schumer and Chinese actress Yao Chen.

#News: Former President Goodluck Jonathan not attacked - Police
The Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Asinim Butswat, of The Bayelsa State Police Command has debunked reports that former President Jonathan was attacked in his state. According to him, a group of hungry youths mistook a convoy of the former President for one of the governorship candidate on electioneering ahead of the December 5 election.
They followed the convoy perhaps for alms, only to discover it was that of Jonathan. When they realized this, the youths, who had followed him up to his house in Yenagoa, pulled back and ran away. Security operatives however ran after them and arrested some of them. They did not attack the convoy and no weapon was found on them.
#News: Violence in APC headquarters Abuja over Kogi election
Violence erupted outside the APC headquarters in Abuja this afternoon over the inconclusive election in Kogi state. Some thugs numbering over a thousand attempted to attack the party's choice in the December 5th supplementary election, Yahaya Bello as he arrived the secretariat this afternoon to attend a meeting with top party leaders. The thugs engaged the supporters of Yahaya in a free for all fight. Police and other security agents are working to restore law and order.

A Nigerian man who claimed to be a preacher has been arrested after being accused of beating, robbing and raping escorts in hotels across Washington DC. Gabriel Omogbo of Hyattsville, Maryland, is charged with attempted first degree murder, armed robbery, first degree assault and reckless endangerment.
Police believe that the 33-year-old used the website Backpage.com to find female escorts & arranged to meet up with them.
According to WJLA, the first two attacks happened at the Best Western Plus Hotel in Rockville and on both occasions he is accused of raping and stealing from two women he had met online.
A third attack took place at the Radison Hotel in Rockville, where he is accused of threatening a woman with a knife.
He ordered the woman to take off her clothes before reportedly telling her 'You are going to die today.'
He then beat her, cutting her arms, legs and hands and stole her iPad, cell phone and $300.
The woman survived and told police that before he fled the hotel room offered her a glass of water.
He was arrested after police traced CCTV footage from the hotels as well as collecting DNA evidence from each of the rooms.
CCTV footage showed a man matching Omogbo's description wearing blue jeans and brown loafers entering and leaving the hotels at the time of the attacks.
Omogbo is now being held at Montgomery County Correction Facility on a no bond status. He will next appear in Court on January 8 and could face life in prison.
According to his Facebook page, he preaches at the Celestial Church of Christ in Riverdale and is a former student at Bowie State University.
He also works as a security guard and currently lives at home with his parents.
Men arrested after they trailed former President Jonathan's convoy to his home in Bayelsa (photos)
Former President Goodluck Jonathan this morning escaped death by whiskers after the men pictured above, intercepted and drove into a short motorcade conveying the former President from the Julius Berger bridge area of the state capital Yenagoa.
According to a report on Leadership and other media platforms, the militants trailed and chased GEJ's convoy to the entrance of his Yenagoa private residence in the Kpansia area of the town, before they were overpowered and arrested by a combined team of security operatives attached to the former President. Members of the arrested gang have been taken to the Bayelsa State Police Command for further investigation and interrogation.
News: 7 Female students die in Kano school dormitory fire incident
Seven female students have been confirmed dead after a fire engulfed their dormitory inside their boarding school in Jogana village, Kano yesterday night. Eyewitnesses say the fire started at about 9pm when most of the students had gone to bed.
As many as 25 of them sustained injury as they tried to flee the scene of the fire through the only two exits made available. The cause of the fire has not yet been ascertained.
Nigerian-American singer wins Best New Artist at 2015 Soul Train Awards
Nigerian-American singer Jidenna won Best New Artist at the 2015 Soul Train Awards held on Sunday, November 29. While accepting his award, Jidenna recalled how his father pushed him to be the best. He remembered a time he brought home a test from school with a 98 score. Instead of a pat on the back, his father asked him: "Where are your other two points?". Congrats to him!
#News: T.B Joshua fails to honor court invite, case adjourned till Dec. 11th
The hearing on the suit against Synagogue Pastor, T.B Joshua and his engineers over the September 2014 church building collapse has been adjourned to December 11th by Justice Lawal Akapo of the Lagos State High Court. The resumed hearing of the case was meant to take place this morning but T.B. Joshua and his engineers, Oladele Ogundeji and Akinbela Fatiregun failed to appear in court.
Counsel to the Engineers, Oluwaseun Abimbola, told the court that they were absent because they were not served with court papers. Reacting to this position, the Lagos State's Attorney General, Adeniji Kazeem said no valid physical addresses were found for the contractors, which he said was reason that the Ministry of Justice could not locate or serve the court papers.
The presiding judge ordered that proper court notices be served to the engineers within 72 hours, and advised their counsel to inform them to take the court proceedings seriously as their trial is of a criminal case. 117 people, mostly Nigerians and South Africans, died in the Church building collapse.

#News: Amaechi orders probe of maritime academy over N18bn remittances
Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi has ordered a probe into the financial activities of the Maritime Academy of Nigeria (MAN), Oron, Akwa Ibom State and N18 billion remittances to the institution by the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) in the last five years. Amaechi gave the order following allegations of financial recklessness and large scale fraud leveled against the academy's rector, Joshua Okpo.
The academy's rector had recently approached Amaechi to accuse NIMASA of starving the institute of Funds. Amaechi immediately called for a meeting with the management of NIMASA and enquired from them why it was sitting on the subvention of MAN, Oron.
This claim was however refuted by NIMASA's acting DG, Haruna Jauro who told Amaechi that the agency had remitted over N18 billion to the academy since 2009. At the enquiry of the minister, the MAN rector, Okpo said he only took over in 2011 to which NIMASA declared that a sum of N13 billion was remitted to the institution since the rector took over. When asked what he had done with the N13 billion remitted to the academy since he took over as Rector, Okpo kept giving incoherent and inconsistent answers. This made Amaechi to immediately call for a probe.

Kobe Bryant announces retirement from basketball at age 37
One of the most talented basketball players of all time, Kobe Bryant, of the Los Angeles Lakers announced yesterday Sunday November 29th that he would retire from professional basketball after the end of this season, his 20th in the NBA.
He announced his retirement in form of a poem on The Players' Tribune website, bringing to a close one of the most decorated careers in the history of the sport. In the poem titled 'Dear Basketball' The 37 year old wrote;
You gave a six-year-old boy his Laker dream
And I'll always love you for it.
But I can't love you obsessively for much longer.
This season is all I have left to give.
My heart can take the pounding
My mind can handle the grind
But my body knows it's time to say goodbye.
In a statement Sunday night, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver called Bryant "one of the greatest players in the history of our game."
"I join Kobe's millions of fans around the world in congratulating him on an outstanding NBA career and thank him for so many thrilling memories."
Bryant was 17 years old when he was picked 13th overall in the 1996 draft by the Charlotte Hornets, who promptly traded him to the Lakers, the only organization for which he has played in his professional career. He has won five N.B.A. titles and two Olympic gold medals, has been named to 17 All-Star teams and was voted the league's most valuable player in 2008. He ranks third on the NBA's career scoring list, behind only Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Karl Malone.

An unspecified number of girls have reportedly been abducted by Boko Haram members after an attack in Bam Village which is about 7 kilometres away from Buratai village, the hometown of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant-General Tukur Buratai in Borno state.
A resident of Bam village, Ali Bam told The Nigerian Tribune that the sect members arrived their village in the early hours of yesterday November 29th, shooting and setting the place on fire. Four people were killed while an unspecified number of girls were abducted.
